March Professional Development - Government & Young Professionals
Expired event
Susan Richardson Williams and Cortney Piper will lead YPK members in a discussion about Knoxville politics and specifically how the decisions and leadership of the City of Knoxville, Knox County, and the State of Tennessee may impact Young Professionals.
Big changes in state and local leadership are ahead in 2010. A new Knox County mayor and new state governor are sure things, as well as a potential shake-up in city leadership, depending on Bill Haslam's success in the gubernatorial race. State senate and house seats are also up for election this year - all of which can have a huge impact on the future of life and business in East Tennessee - especially for young professionals.
Susan and Cortney are consultants with SRW & Associates, an association of independent public affairs, government and media relations professionals. The pair bring a deep knowledge of politics and government issues from both sides of the aisle.
Susan has spent 35 years in the public and private sector working primarily in the government and community relations arenas and is well-known throughout the region as a leader in public affairs and business. She is a regular panelist on WBIR-TV’s “Inside Tennessee,” a weekly political insiders’ television show and appears regularly on local radio talk shows as a commentator.
Cortney, a former Lady Vol swimmer, specializes in energy, technology, environment issues and public policy. She also is a regular on WATE-TV’s "Tennessee this Week," where she provides political commentary from the left side of the aisle on current events in East Tennessee.
